Event Timer for Geek’n'Rolla

I’ve just finished putting together a little countdown timer application for next week’s Geek’n'Rolla event. Mike Butcher, one of the event organisers, tweeted about his need for a simple application that could time speakers and pitches and alert them after a set amount of time. The app below does just that.

Muchosmedia has once again teamed up with Kinura to deliver a combined live webcast and chat system, this time broadcasting from the Learning and Technology World Forum.

You can access the stream and chat on this page. The webcast starts at 14.20pm and runs until about 16.00pm.

Scribblar.com Feature Update

Muchosmedia is proud to announce a major new feature on Scribblar.com: PDF support.
Users can now upload PDF files via the Assets panel and the PDF files are then converted to images which can be added to the whiteboard with one simple drag and drop operation. Scribblar will automatically add multiple pages to the whiteboard, and then the images.

Users with free accounts on Scribblar.com can make use of the first five pages of a PDF, and Scribblar Pro customers can upload PDFs with up to 25 pages. We had to introduce a limit to the pages per PDF due to the risk of very large PDF files (potentially with hundreds of pages) being uploaded.
In the future we plan to expand on the range of documents which we support and most likely will include Powerpoint presentations in a future upgrade.

In addition it is now possible to assign any uploaded image as a whiteboard background, for example a grid pattern. This is very useful for Maths tutoring and similar.
We have also fixed multiple bugs and made minor improvements to the backend. Lastly, we’ll be moving Scribblar to a new server soon – no downtime is expected when this happens.

Just Letters iPhone App Now Available!

I am super-excited to announce the immediate availability of muchosmedia’s first iPhone and iPod Touch game: Just Letters. Just Letters are Fridge Magnets with a twist. You can play live and in real-time with other users around the world.

Try to drag magnets on a virtual fridge and build words while other players are competing with you on the same fridge, stealing your letters and messing things up. Things get hectic as everyone tries to grab the same letters.

Muchosmedia to Receive grant by Nokia and Adobe

I’ve had some very exciting news recently when I found out that my application to the Open Screen Project Fund has been approved. Partners in the Open Screen Project are working together to provide a consistent runtime environment for open web browsing and standalone application, with the basic aim to deliver a consistent experience to the end user across multiple devices.

The project I proposed consists of a browser based web application that is combined with a mobile client. In a nutshell, users will be able to upload documents such as Powerpoint presentations or Word files to this service and present them in real-time to an online audience. As soon as I have signed the necessary paperwork I will post some more details and I am hoping to complete the project within three months alongside several partners who will help me in the process.
The browser based application will consist of a Flex frontend while the real-time features are being delivered through Adobe Flash Media Server. The mobile client will run Flash Lite and be compatible with Nokia Series 60 and latest touchscreen devices. It will be one of the first mobile applications to bring real-time features to handheld devices.

Sclipo meets Scribblar

I’m excited to be able to welcome Sclipo.com as the newest client to adopt the Scribblar.com collaboration platform.
Sclipo is a Social Learning Network for continuing education that offers apps for synchronous and asynchronous eLearning integrated with social features: Course manager, document & video library, webcam-based classroom for live teaching, live meeting room for tutoring and collaborations. At Sclipo, any member can teach and learn, making Sclipo a pioneer in enabling peer2peer or social learning online.
Sclipo’s team evaluated Scribblar and quickly became convinced about the capabilities of the platform. They are now using our newly updated API to integrate Scribblar tightly with the existing Sclipo community, and are running Scribblar PRO next to their existing online classroom tool.

2009 Streaming Media Dream Team

How did this happen? I have been appointed as one of this year’s Streaming Media Dream Team which selects ‘the most influential, innovative, and important people in the European online video space.’

Scribblar at Geek’n'Rolla
